- The Park City High School National Honor Society (PCHS NHS) has long held an annual charitable 5K for our members and members of the community to come together to remember those we've lost and carry on their legacy. 100% of event proceeds go directly to several charities:
-NHS Service Trips: Each year, NHS sends its Student Advisory Board and several of its members to a less developed country in order to complete a quality-of-life or infrastructure project that charts that community for a brighter future. This year, our service group will be traveling to Santa Marta, Columbia to provide a rural community with over 30 zero-energy light structures for their soccer field, schools and homes in partnership with Litro de Luz. Members will also contribute to repairs of the local school and engage with local students for peer-to-peer interaction.
-NHS Community Scholarships: As a club, we annually provide 4 scholarships to first-generation college students from PCHS. These funds allow them to afford an education to improve the lives of themselves and their families alike, inspiring a brighter future for the individual and our community.
-International Rescue Committee: Working to provide relief to Ukrainian citizens in the face of war, IRC is committed to responding to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. - -Labs For Liberty: Pairing veterans or families of fallen veterans with service animals to help them heal, NHS partners with L4L to sponsor as many service animals as possible and match them to Park City military families.
-Homeless Youth Center of Salt Lake City: A nonprofit shelter dedicated to providing housing and resources to Utah's homeless youth, charting them on a path to a better future in a supportive social and educational community.
Thank you for supporting us as we work to honor figures in our community!
History
In May of 2009, NHS teamed up with the Park City 5 to hold a 5K honoring the memories of five PCHS graduates who all died within 7 months of each other in 2008. As a result of the incredible support and participation in the PC5 5K, the community felt the need to honor the memories of all loved ones that have passed on and, thus, the Memorial Day 5k began.
